Understanding Subtitles
Subtitles are the written words that appear on the screen to show what people are saying or what sounds are happening in a video, movie, or TV show.
How to Manage Subtitles for Your Video? 🎥📜
Learn how to add, create, and save subtitles for your video, including both the original and translated languages.
Adding and using subtitles for your video is easy, and you can do it in different ways depending on what you need. Here’s how to handle subtitles in different situations:
1. I already have subtitles in the original language of my video 📝
If you already have an SRT file with subtitles in the original language, you can upload like this:
Create Your Project 🛠️: Start by setting up your project on the platform.
Upload Your SRT File ⬆️: While creating your project, open the “Advanced settings (optional)” section and upload your SRT file there.
Find the Upload Box 📥: At the bottom of this section, you’ll see a box where you can upload your SRT file.
After you upload your subtitle file, it will be linked to your project automatically.
2. I already have subtitles in the translated language of my video 📝
If you have subtitles in another language (the translated version), you can upload that file too, just like the original subtitles.
Note : You can select multiple target languages, but you can only upload subtitles for one translated language.
If you don’t have subtitles in the original or translated language, no worries — you can create them right on our platform. 😌
3. I don’t have subtitles in the original language of my video❓
If you don’t have subtitles for your video, the platform can help you create them from the transcript. Here’s how:
Check the Transcription ✍️: After uploading your video, review the transcription automatically created by the platform.
Download the Transcript ⬇️: When you're happy with the transcript, click the "Generate Translations" button in the top-right corner.
Get the SRT or VTT File 📄: A menu will appear. Scroll down to “Step 3: Download Outputs” and click “Download Outputs” to save the subtitle file (.srt, .vtt, or .txt) for the original language.
4. I want to create translated subtitles for my video 🌎
Once you’ve created translations and made any edits, you can download the subtitles for the target language(s) before generating your voiceover.
Here’s how:
Generate Translations 🌐: After making the translations and any needed edits, click the "Generate Dubbed Audio Tracks" button in the top-right corner.
Download Translated Subtitles ⬇️: A menu will appear. Scroll down to "Step 3: Download Outputs" and click "Download Outputs" to get your translated subtitles.
Important: In dubbing mode (see top-left corner), you can download subtitles based on the dubbing translation. However, if you want to work on subtitles independently, without affecting the dubbing, you must switch to sub mode.
Changes made in one mode won’t affect the other. See Step 5 to learn how to switch modes.
5. I want to work only on subtitles for my videos 🎥📜
If you only want to focus on creating and editing subtitles, you can skip other features and directly manage your subtitles.
We also have a "Subtitles Mode" with subtitle settings.
Here’s how:
After uploading your original video, check the transcription if you don’t have subtitles in the original language.
Then, click the settings icon.
Select "View Preferences", and switch from Dubbing Mode to Subtitles Mode.
⚠️ Switching to Subtitles Mode will turn off voiceover tools, but keep all subtitle options.
Next, add or select your target language and click on "Generate Translation".
Wait for the confirmation message to appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Once the translation is complete, you can edit the text for your subtitles or directly download your subtitle file: click on "Ready to Download" dropdown and click on "Download Outputs".
Note: see Subtitle settings section in this file for more specific subtitle edits.
Here, you can download your subtitles as .srt, .vtt, or .txt files.
